Square hat                short brim

cigarette squeezed tightly between chubby fingers

gasping for air.

midday sun cooled by a breeze.

Striped orange shirt tucked in neatly. As wide as he is tall.

Orange tape flaps, rhythmically in the breeze from a nearby telephone pole.

Torso turns to reveal,                      the aggressive curve of a blade.

Back pocket.

Glistening in the hard sun.

Serrated teeth smile back as if to reveal a secret,

then on with his day.
